Special information:
This tour is special as for your convenience your driver will only bring you from Delhi to Khajuraho. From there you can choose to take the night train or plane to Varanasi, where a new driver will pick you up. He will also drop you at Varanasi train station or airport for going back to Delhi. In Delhi we will again pick you up and drop you at your hotel or the airport, as needed.
Another option is to drive from Khajuraho to Varanasi (450 km, 9 hours), wich will add a day to your trip.
Delhi- Agra- Gwalior- Orcha- Khajuraho- Varanasi with Sarnath- Delhi
Day 1: Sightseeing Delhi
After breakfast in your hotel your driver will pick you up and you will drive to Old Delhi. You can start your day visiting the Red Fort. After, you walk in Chandni Chowk and visit the vegetable and spice market. In the center of a local market you find on a small hill the beautiful Jama Mosque. There are some famous restaurants in Chandni Chowk where you can enjoy typical indian lunch.
In the afternoon your driver will bring you to Humayun tomb, which was a model for the Taj Mahal. On the way by car you will see India Gate and the President House. If you still don’t feel tired, there might be some time to visit the islamic Qutub Minar, the famous modern Lotus Temple, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara (a Sikh temple) or Birla Temple (a Hindu temple). Your driver will drop you in your hotel in the evening.
Day 2: Drive to Agra (250 km, 4 hours)
After breakfast your driver will pick you up in your hotel and you drive to Agra via Expressway. On the way you visit Etta-ma-muddaulla Tomb, which Indians also call the Baby Taj. Check in Hotel. After you refreshed you visit the impressive Red Fort built by the the mighty mughals. In the early evening you will get a first glimpse of the breath-taking Taj Mahal and take the most wonderful pictures in sunset from the other side of the Yamuna River in Mehtab Bagh.
Day 3: Taj Mahal – Drive to Gwalior (120 km, 3 hours)
If you are ready to get up early you can start your day visiting the Wonder Of The World, symbol Of The Love TAJMAHAL in sunrise. You will never forget the gorgeous view of this white marble mausoleum. It was built by the great mughal Shah Jahan to commemorate his main wife Mumtaz Mahal - what a beautiful proof of love! After breakfast you will drive to Gwalior. There is enough time in the afternnon to visit the beautiful garden Fool Bagh and Gwalior Fort. The special beauty of this Fort comes from the decoration with blue and yellow tiles on bronze walls.
Day 4: Drive to Orcha (130 km, 3 hours)
After breakfast you drive to the small, enchanting village of Orcha at the Betwa river. After check-in and refresh in the hotel you will visit Orcha Fort. Probably the most impressive structure in the fort is the symmetrical Jahangir Mahal (Jahangir Palace). The delicate pretty windows with breathtaking views make a visit to the palace a rich experience. In Raj Mahal you can admire the rich wall paintings. You will also visit the Laxmi Naryan temple and the Cenotaphs of the kings amidst overgrown gardens. Enjoy the sunset on the other side of Betwa River.
Day 5: Drive to Khajuraho (170 km, 4 hours).
In the morning you will drive through rural regions to Khajuraho, which is famous for numerous erotic carvings in the temples. After refreshing in the hotel you will visit the 7th Century Eastern Group Temple and enjoy the sunset in the Jain Group Temple.
Day 6: Sightseeing in Khajuraho
After breakfast you will visit the 7th Century Western Group Temples, which are mainly known for the erotic sculptures from the Kamasutra. Of the original 85 temples, 22 have survived, and some of them are still in very good condition. In the afternoon you will drive to Panna National Park to see the breathtaking Raneh Waterfalls, the “Grand Canon” of India.
In the evening your driver will drop you at the train station or airport in Varanasi. As the distance to Varanasi is too long, we recommend going by night train or plane.
Day 7: Sightseeing Varanasi
Your new driver will pick you up and bring you to your hotel. After refreshing you can get a first impression of the town by walking on the Ghats. Just walking up an down here, sitting on the steps and watching people is one of the main attractions here. Also there are numerous temples on the way you can visit. Manikarnika Ghat is the burning ghat, the most auspicious place for a Hindu to be cremated - however, only rich families can affort it.
In the evening you can enjoy the sunset with boat riding on the holy Ganga river, and after diner join the evening prayer on Dashashwamegh Ghat. Priests and pilgrims pray to Mother Ganga every night. Songs are sung, lamps and torches are lit and small bowls filled with flowers are put into the water.
Day 8: Visit Sarnath (one way 12 km, 1 hour), in the evening flight or night train to Delhi
Your driver will drive you to Sarnath. Here, Buddha preached the cornerstones of Buddhism for the first time after his enlightenment. Even today, Sarnath is visited by Buddhist pilgrims. You will see the stupa, remains of the various monastery buildings, and you can find one of the pillars of Ashoka here. After the visit you go back to Varanasi, refresh and check out of your hotel. Your driver will drop you at the airport or train station for going back to Delhi.
