Details

Day 1: Pick up from Trivandrum International Airport and drive to Varkala (50 km, 1 hour)

Your driver will pick you up at the airport and drive you to your hotel in Varkala. After check-in you can do a first walk at the beach

Day 2: Relax on Varkala beach

Enjoy the day at the beach. The cliffs of Varkala are a real visitor magnet. Travelers from all over the world come here to relax at extended yoga sessions and in delightful hotels.

The long, rarely crowded beach of Varkala is ideal for walking, swimming and relaxing.

Day 3: Drive to Thekkady (200 km, 5 hours)

After breakfast you will drive to Thekkady, one of India's most beautiful nature reserves with rolling hills, spice plantations and wildlife. The journey itself is an attraction. The variety of the landscape and the various vegetation zones from the coast to 1000 m altitude make the trip a real experience. The journey begins in palm-fringed coastal landscape, past rubber plantations and leads through spice gardens and tea plantations.

(Alternate option is Munnar with different program, please ask us).

Day 4: Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Full-day visit in Periyar Tiger Reserve National Park. This Wildlife Sanctuary is surrounded by mountains and valleys and is known for its tigers, and the National Park boasts many other mammals - including the goat-like, endangered Nilgiri Tahr - birds and butterflies.

Nature walks, tiger trail, bamboo rafting are some of the options. You have also the possibility to do camping in the park to increase the chance of seeing tigers or elephants.

Day 5: Spice gardens and tea plantations

Enjoy another day in this enchanting area. Visit the spice gardens in the morning and let an expert introduce you to the world of spices like pepper, cardamom and cinnamon. The beautifully packed spices you can buy here are perfect souvenirs. After lunch you can do a walk through the tea plantations and Thekkady market, and in the evening relax with a good Ayurvedic massage.

Day 6: Drive to Alleppy (150 km, 4 hours)

Your driver will take you to Alleppey, the central backwaters location and the area richest in water. Depending on how many photo stops you want to take, you will arrive at your hotel in the late morning or afternoon. Check in hotel and relax.

Day 7: Backwaters tour

You have the option to do a Backwaters House Boat Day tour or a tour with small boats driven by hand for few hours, or motorboat for half day. Enjoy Sunrise or Sunset on the boat.

A houseboat tour is certainly the highlight of any Kerala trip and is ideal to discover this paradise in the hinterland of Kerala. They drive along the canals with palm-fringed shores and behind them extend the green rice fields of the people living here.

Day 8: Drive to Kochi (60 km, 2 hours)

Today you will drive to Kochi, probably the most attractive town in Kerala, which is beautifully situated in the countryside. The city is spread over several islands and headlands and has an interesting history. The different ethnic groups have created a fascinating cultural diversity here. After check-in your hotel visit Kochi Fort with Sant Francis Church and Dutch Fort. Walk on the beach and watch fishing with chinese nets, and visit the fish market. In the evening you can visit the Kathakali dance show.
